What is the best time of day to go on a New Orleans swamp tour?

If you are planning your trip to New Orleans, you’ve probably already started trying to find the right swamp tour. One of the most asked questions we get here at A New Orleans Kayak Tour is, “when is the best time of the day to take a swamp tour?

A good rule of thumb for any swamp tour throughout the year is to go on a tour either early in the morning or late in the evening. This is particularly true during the summer months. From June-Sept, during the height of the summer months, wildlife is most active early in the morning or late in the evening.

While early or late in the day is a good general rule, there are exceptions to this depending on the time of year. If your group members aren’t early risers or you have dinner obligations in the evening, the spring and winter are one of the best times of year to go on a tour in the middle of the day. In The winter, Dec-Feb wildlife is the most active when the sun has been out for awhile. In the spring, March-May, you can’t go wrong anytime of the day. For alligator sightings, you can use the temperature to help plan your trip. Alligators are most active between the range of about 60-80 degrees.
